Ever since I was 10 years old I've managed to cram my schedule full of sport around all my other commitments in life. I want to share how I've been able to manage training for national and international sporting events while balancing work, study, social and family commitments. So what are the 5 main points that I would suggest to help you keep ticking boxes and cramming the most into your day?

1. Set your alarm the night before

If you know you have to be somewhere for work, appointments being home with the kids, think ahead and set your alarm. Get up an extra 1 or 2 hours earlier to fit in some time for yourself.

2. Avoid procrastination

I know I’m not perfect at this but I know when I need to get training and work stuff ready I go and put my smart phone away and know that I can’t touch it until all my chores and/or training are done otherwise half an hour is wasted and that is half an hour EXTRA sleep you could get!

3. Be organised

Have a spot for everything! Personally, I need to do this. As many of you know, I leave my stuff everywhere so I MUST have a designated spot for everything at home and in the car otherwise it will disappear.

4. Fail to plan or plan to fail

Make sure you take at least 10-15 mins to check out your week ahead. Whether it be your training schedule, appointments or work roster etc… You will thank yourself later. I also use the night before to get my nutrition ready, charge equipment and gather clothes for training and or work.

5. Prioritise

Prioritise… Make a list in order of what is most important in your life. Remember… IT IS OK TO SAY NO! We are only human which means we CAN’T do everything at once.

I hope these 5 tips help you with balancing training and everyday life.
